White Mesh, Metal, and Neon

[Update]: This post was a submission for IFB Project #69: #WalkOn With Stuart Weitzman. The challenge: fashion bloggers are asked to showcase a favorite pair of evening shoes.

The Stuart Weitzman after hours style is sleek, chic, and built from the ground up, like that of Petra Nemcova in the original video series for Stuart Weitzman’s “Walking After Midnight” campaign (which very much inspires my own evening style).

Spring / Summer 2012 Trend: Mint-y Fresh

One of my favorite trends this season is the return of pastels - particularly the color mint.  I'm seeing this color everywhere... from blouses and skirt to accessories and manicures.  It's edgy, girly, and fresh, all at the same time. Love it!

Some of my current favorite mint-y picks:

BCBG MAX AZRIA, Topshop, Forever 21, Essie
ShopStyle

[From Top Left:]

1. Essie Nail Polish in Absolutely Shore
2. Topshop Mint Bralet
3. Mint Tea Heart Earrings from Fred Flare
4. Stone Pyramid Bracelet from Forever 21
5. Topshop Mermaid Belt
6. Asos Leather Platform Court Shoe
7. Topshop Pleated Dip Back Skirt in Mint
8. BCBGeneration 'Charlie' Shoulder Bag in Mint

What's your favorite fashion color this season?

One of My Style Inspirations

Today is a special day... I'd like to wish a Happy Birthday to one of my style inspirations.... my mom!

From a young age, my mom has passed on to me a penchant for bows, polka dots, skirts, navy-inspired blouses, and classic, ladylike styles.  When she and her sisters were in high school and college, they used to have all of their clothes custom designed and custom made.  She and my aunts would flip through magazines together to look for style inspiration, then make trips to the fabric store together to pick out fabrics.  They would then take their designs to their tailor, who would sew together whatever they wanted in their sizes.

Photo of Mom and Dad from 1977 in Tokyo - The jacket Mom is wearing was designed by her and custom made for her.  I love the adorable stripes and collar.  Dad is looking stylish himself in a pinstriped suit.

My aunt (Dad's side - left) and Mom (right) at Yale in 1979 - Mom is stylish in a long, red wool coat, boots, and thick, straight-cut bangs

[Left:] Mom and Dad at Yale in 1977-  Plaid and a chic tote never go out of style. [Right:] Grandma and Mom in New York in 1981 - I love the white babydoll shirt Mom is wearing here.

I love looking through old photos of my mom from when she was in college and in her 20s... I definitely spotted some bell-bottom jeans, plaid shirts, and thick, straight bangs.  The bangs are totally chic and in still in style now.

Luckily for me, I get to borrow from her extensive closet and wear her hand-me-downs.  Mom generously donated an armful of her fine quality, wool pencil skirts to me recently, which I then tailored to my size.  There's a gray, wool Ralph Lauren skirt that I especially love for work.  I'll do an outfit post featuring the skirt soon.  Surprisingly, this was the first time I've ever had to alter something to make it looser... some of the waists on some of her older skirts (from when she was in her 40s) measured less than 22 inches (despite being a size 2 or 4)! This goes to show the extent of vanity sizing in the present (a 00 in J Crew usually accommodates a 24 inch + waist)...not to mention that my (also petite) mom was incredibly slender.

The pair of gold necklaces I wear in many of my photos are also from my mom.  She bought them a long time ago during a trip to Japan.  If there's one place where my mom and her sisters love to shop, it's Japan.

One great thing about my mom is that she doesn't get all hung up about labels and isn't a fashion snob.  If there's a design she likes, she'll buy it.  Not only that, she's also become more and more of a practical shopper... she always looks for great deals and bargains.

I've already thought of a perfect future birthday gift for her... an entire bedroom in her house remodeled and converted into a large, walk-in closet.  Happy Birthday to my fashionable, inspiring mom!

Do you borrow clothes from anyone? Who are your style inspirations?

Tea Time: Floral and Gold

F21: Dress and Purse (similar), HM: Blazer (similar), Belt, and Bracelet. Jessica Simpson Shoes (similar here and here), Necklaces: Old (from Japan), Michael Kors Sunglasses

I’m definitely a girly girl…there’s no doubt about it.  I wore this outfit recently to high tea at the beautiful Palace Hotel.

I’m in love with this girly floral dress right now! I’ve paired it here with a small gold purse and muted gold slingback heels.  It fit right in among porcelain tea cups, cute mini-sandwiches, and adorable bite-sized desserts.

Are you also a girly girl at heart?

Ready for Spring: A Pop of Color

HM Blazer (similar here), Frenchi Top, F21 Skirt (similar here and here) and Purse, Shoes - from Taiwan (similar here), Nordstrom Necklace (similar here), Bracelets: InPink and HM, Ring: Vera Wang (similar here), Michael Kors Sunglasses

Hello, Readers!  If you've been following my last few posts, you may already know that I love polka dots,  bows, and all things princess-like.   With the ring, shoes, and skirt, this outfit has a bit of all three!

The crown ring is from Vera Wang, and the polka dot skirt is a lucky find (under $10!) from Forever 21.

I discovered these adorable shoes while shopping at a Night Market in Taiwan.  If you've never been to Taiwan to shop, you must check out the Shi Lin Night Market while you're there...it's an amazing sea of shoes, all around 390 TWD (~$13 USD)!

Hope you're all having a great week!

Weekend Casual: Tangerine Print and Spring Neutrals

HM Dress and Belt, Shoes: Jessica Simpson (similar here and here), Necklace and Bracelet: BR, Initial Watch: Nordstrom, Purse: Prada

We’re finally getting some warm weather in the San Francisco Bay Area!

I decided to take advantage of the gorgeous day by wearing a new sleeveless dress I picked up recently.  The floaty, chiffon-like fabric is perfect for a warm summer day.  I’m also carrying a Prada bag I bought during a trip to New York a few years ago.  The bracelet and necklace are recent purchases from BR (currently in stores and online)…I’m loving how they instantly add some polish to any outfit.

Summer is definitely my favorite season when it comes to fashion… let’s hope this warm weather continues!

What’s your favorite fashion season?

Weekend Casual: Mixing Florals and Stripes

Skirt and Watch: Nordstrom, Sweater and Purse: F21 (similar envelope clutch here), Shoes: Bakers (similar here), Bracelet: HM, Sunglasses: Michael Kors

I've been experimenting with pattern mixing lately, and I'm liking this floral and stripe combo that I've come up with.  I'm also carrying a recent find: a large envelope clutch.  I'm loving the oversized clutch trend right now, and I like the cream / black combo, structured shape, and gold hardware on this one.

I bought these sunglasses from a Michael Kors boutique recently and love the shape.  I usually have trouble finding sunglasses that don't look silly on my face, but I find that most of his styles tend to be universally flattering.

Despite the fact that we're already in April, it's surprisingly chilly in sunny California this year.  Here's hoping for warmer weather soon...I'm looking forward to cute sandals and pastel sundresses!
